We returned from our vacation of Germany with a pile of coasters from our favourite breweries and pubs. If you or your partner enjoys collecting coasters, here's a way to make sure they last and actually get used!
What you need:
- thin wood (your desired thickness), I went with 10 mm plywood; if you salvage wood make sure it's flat not warped
- finishing spray (gloss or matte- whatever your preference)
- wood glue
- jigsaw
- sandpaper
1. Outline your coasters onto wood.
2. Cut out with saw.
3. Glue coasters onto their respective wood pieces; place under heavy item to ensure no gap between coaster and wood (especially if coaster is bent).
4. Use sandpaper to remove any excess glue that squished out and make sure wood is flush (even) with coaster for a perfect match.
5. Put on a couple layers of clear finishing spray to ensure that your coasters are sealed and won't be ruined by spilt beverages or moisture. I recommend spraying the wood (bottom) as well.
