not sure what the non-brand name of it is: play clay? anywho, here's a super simple, quick and easy recipe for homemade play-doh; chemical-free using ingredients from the kitchen!

1 cup flour

1/3 cup salt (yes that much, it helps preserve the clay, and also deters little ones from consuming it!)

2 tsp cream of tartar (helps bind ingredients)

1 cup water

1 tbsp vegetable oil

1/2-1 tsp extract (vanilla, peppermint, etc) - optional but is nice to have a scent!

don't worry, ingredients aren't in the pan for long, so it's easy to clean/no burnt-in pots!

1. Mix flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a saucepan.

2. Add water, oil, and extract.

3. Turn on heat to medium-low and stir.

4. Continue to stir and add colour when mixture begins to thicken (~1 minute).

5. Keep stirring until it works together into a ball and remove from heat. Don't worry if colour isn't mixed evenly, simply knead the clay with your hands once it is cool enough to do so.

6. Allow to cool, then store in a sealed container/bag in the fridge

I halve this recipe to make one cup worth of clay in a particular colour and then make multiple batches (colours). When halving the recipe, I use 1/4 cup of salt.

*If mixture dries out, simply pour over a little water and knead until texture is elastic again.

Get messy and have a happy & healthy playtime!
